Plot summary
Haris is a painter in Calicut, in the Indian state of Kerala. He is getting ready for his first solo exhibition and persuades Vishnu, a kabaddi player whose rural family is in the grip of the Hindu right, to join him in the city; Vishnu moves into his small rented apartment as a lover and model, his own desire muted. Sia, an activist who will not conform to the norms of femininity expected of her, is Haris's friend and confidante. She works in an export firm, where she questions the surveillance and the labor controls, and at home her conservative Muslim relatives restrict her. Protests against the religious and economic right wing fill the city.
