Plot summary
Jurassic World has operated for years on Isla Nublar, the island where the original park failed, with dinosaurs cloned by InGen for owner Simon Masrani. Claire Dearing, who runs the park's operations, has little time for her visiting nephews, Zach and Gray, so her assistant Zara is left to show them around. Owen Grady, a Navy veteran and ethologist, studies a squad of four velociraptors: Blue, Charlie, Delta and Echo. Vic Hoskins, who heads InGen security, believes the animals can be turned into weapons, an idea Owen and his assistant Barry oppose. Masrani brings Claire to inspect the park's coming attraction, the Indominus rex, a transgenic dinosaur made by geneticist Dr. Henry Wu, and Owen is asked to judge the security of its enclosure. He warns Claire that the animal, raised alone, is unpredictable.

- The captive orca Tilikum, raised partly in isolation and responsible for the deaths of three people, helped inspire the Indominus rex, and the 2013 documentary Blackfish, critical of SeaWorld, was a key inspiration for the film's fictional park.
- Josh Brolin was in talks for a role in Jurassic World in October 2013 but passed on it, and Chris Pratt was cast the following month instead. Brolin said he "could not picture me being that guy" and thought someone else would do a much better job.
- A Writers Guild of America arbitration panel ruled in March 2015 that director Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly had to share screenplay credit with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver; the pair disagreed with the ruling but accepted it after realizing they had no grounds to appeal.

The death of Claire's assistant Zara, played by Katie McGrath, who is carried off by Pteranodons and eaten by the Mosasaurus, was the first female death in the film series. Colin Trevorrow wanted it to be "the most spectacular death we can possibly imagine" and to kill someone who just doesn't deserve to die.- The park's Main Street and boardwalk were constructed in the parking lot of the abandoned Six Flags New Orleans, while NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans housed interior sets including a Mosasaurus feeding show and a raptor enclosure.
- Stan Winston, who made the animatronic dinosaurs for the earlier Jurassic Park films, died in 2008 before he could work on the fourth film. His former colleagues at Legacy Effects built an animatronic Apatosaurus instead, and maquettes and motion capture were used for other dinosaurs.
- Jurassic World became the first film to collect over $500 million in a single weekend, beating the record held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, and it reached $1 billion in 14 days, then the fastest to that milestone, surpassing Furious 7.
