Plot summary
Racecar drivers Jordon and Austin are traveling to Canada with their team, Jewel, Mickey, Alisa and Bobby, for the Road Rally 1000. At a lunch stop Austin spots an unpatrolled highway on the map that would cut a day from the drive. A trucker named Barry urges them to avoid the route, which he calls Slaughter Alley, and recounts the legend of Rusty Nail; Officer Jenkins, having coffee nearby, dismisses the warnings, and the idea of open road appeals to Austin, so the group takes Highway 17. When his friends needle him about an old crash, Austin lashes out at a trucker on the road and speeds off; the man he provokes is Rusty Nail. Rusty catches up and starts toying with the group on the highway.
