Plot summary
Jesse Stone is the police chief of Paradise, Massachusetts, a seaside town. His ex-wife Jenn, in Los Angeles, has asked him to stop calling her every evening, and his drinking worries him; his psychiatrist, Dr. Dix, tells him to find work that matters to fill the slow hours. Stone's deputy Luther 'Suitcase' Simpson lies in a coma after a supermarket robbery, Molly Crane has left the force, and Rose Gammon has taken her place. Stone pulls a cold case from the files: bank teller Rebecca Lewis, taken hostage during a 1992 robbery and found buried. He also looks into Cathleen Holton's claim that Harrison Pendleton raped her aboard his yacht, a case the town council would rather he left alone.
