Plot summary
In late November 1963, a week after President John F. Kennedy is shot in Dallas, his widow Jacqueline Kennedy receives a journalist at Hyannis Port, Massachusetts. She agrees to the interview and tells him she will edit the conversation. The journalist asks about the tour of the White House she gave on television in 1962, when she brings historic furniture and paintings into the mansion, and he presses her on her faith and on the assassination. She recalls the trip to Dallas, where crowds greet her and her husband, and the flight home on Air Force One, where Lyndon Johnson takes the oath of office. Lady Bird Johnson offers to help her change out of her blood-stained clothes, and Bobby Kennedy reaches the plane when it lands.

- Rachel Weisz was announced in April 2010 to star as Jackie Kennedy, with Darren Aronofsky set to direct and produce from Noah Oppenheim's script, but both dropped out after their romantic relationship ended.
- Casting director Mathilde Snodgrass failed to find an actor to play John F. Kennedy in New York, Los Angeles, London and Paris, so she searched northern Europe and cast Danish actor Caspar Phillipson, and also hired a non-actor she saw on a French news broadcast as Ted Kennedy.
- Natalie Portman trained with dialect coach Tanya Blumstein to copy Jackie Kennedy's voice, which Darren Aronofsky called the key to the rest of the film; her delivery on her first day on set was too much.
- Jackie is the first film in Pablo Larraín's trilogy about iconic 20th-century women, followed by Spencer (2021) and Maria (2024).
- John Hurt's role in Jackie was the last of his films released in his lifetime; the actor died in January 2017.
