Plot summary
In October 1973, Mossad relays intelligence to Israeli prime minister Golda Meir suggesting Egypt and Syria are preparing a military campaign. Meir is dismissive, since she cannot act without the backing of her defense minister, Moshe Dayan, who shares her doubts. On Yom Kippur, 6 October, her inner circle reports that Egypt has massed a large force across the Suez Canal and that hostilities will begin by sundown. Meir has been slow to prepare but declines a preemptive strike, ordering a partial mobilization instead. The attack starts earlier than expected. In the Golan Heights, Syrian forces attack Israeli troops who are not prepared.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Helen Mirren was cast as Golda Meir at the request of Meir's own grandson, but in January 2022 British actress Maureen Lipman and others criticized the choice because Mirren is not Jewish, saying it would never be allowed for Ben Kingsley to play Nelson Mandela.
- Mirren answered the following month by saying Lipman was "utterly legitimate" to criticize her casting, adding that she had discussed the decision to cast her with the film's director, Nattiv.
