Caspar Phillipson

Biography

Caspar Phillipson, born in Copenhagen in 1971, is a Danish screen, stage and voice performer, mostly in Scandinavian productions. English-speaking audiences know him mainly as John F. Kennedy in Jackie (2016), his first English-language film role, which he won after auditioning by video from Istanbul while he was appearing in a stage production of Hamlet. He is on screen for under ten minutes in Jackie, yet the press remarked on how closely he resembled Kennedy. He went on to play Kennedy again in Project Blue Book, Blonde (2022), Hammarskjöld (2023) and Maria (2024), and he has delivered Kennedy speeches in live performances. Other screen credits include the Scandinavian series The Bridge and Borgen. He also dubs English films into Danish, among them Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), where he voices Willy Wonka in place of Johnny Depp.

After the film came out, Phillipson gave live performances as Kennedy with Anders Agner Pedersen, a Danish Kennedy biographer who supplied historical context for a speech before Phillipson delivered it. He performed the inaugural address and the 1963 American University and West Berlin speeches.
Beyond film
Phillipson took on the role of Kennedy once more in a short film, delivering a "lost" speech meant for the president to give on 22 November 1963. His performance was recorded at the 2017 COLCOA Film Festival and put out as The Speech JFK Never Gave.
