Plot summary
Rich Freeman is a psychology professor at a university in New York who studies sleep phenomena. After a prestigious award goes to his academic rival instead of him, the dean presses him to push forward a study of dreams, nightmares and sleep paralysis, with a large grant from a pharmaceutical company as the reward. Three people enroll in the study: Otis, a tortured artist, Jo, a sex worker, and Leigh, and all of them are haunted by nightmares and sleep paralysis. As the sessions go on, Freeman and Leigh become romantically involved, and for everyone taking part, the line between sleeping and waking grows harder to hold.
