I'm Starting from Three (1981) on Netflix

Plot summary

Gaetano is a shy young man in Naples, where he shares a home with his mother, his father, his brother and his sister. His father, a deeply Catholic man, lost his right hand and trusts that the Madonna of the swords will give it back to him. Gaetano finds his family's narrow provincial world and his job at a food factory stifling, so he leaves his home, his job and his friends behind and hitchhikes north to Florence, a city he thinks of as more modern and open. There he meets Marta, a young woman, and the two fall in love. He moves in with her. Then his old friend Lello arrives from Naples, a clumsy and very talkative companion who settles in alongside him.
