Plot summary
In Denver, Sandy Patterson hands his personal details to a woman on the phone who is selling identity theft protection. His boss, Harold Cornish, orders him to cut everyone's bonuses while keeping his own, and a co-worker, Daniel Casey, asks Sandy to join him in quitting to start a new firm. Sandy agrees. Then his gas card is declined, the card company reports thousands spent in Florida, and he is arrested. Detective Reilly explains a missed court date in Florida and shows him the mug shot of the woman using his name. The police can act only if the thief is standing in Denver, so Sandy offers to fetch her himself, though his wife Trish knows the risk. He tracks Diana to a Florida salon.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The comedy began life with two male leads. It only became the Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy picture because Bateman watched McCarthy in Bridesmaids and campaigned for her to play opposite him.
- Critic Rex Reed used words such as "tractor-sized" and "hippo" about Melissa McCarthy's weight in his review, and was attacked by other film critics for it. Reed refused to retract, called the outrage a publicity stunt, and praised McCarthy as "completely classy" for staying out of it.
