Plot summary
A non-binary teenager in North Carolina, Ben DeBacker is kicked out of the family home after coming out to ultra-religious parents. Ben's older sister Hannah, from whom Ben has been estranged, takes Ben in, along with her husband Thomas Wallace, a teacher at the school Ben now attends. Hannah and Thomas welcome Ben into their home, but the rejection sharpens the anxiety Ben already lives with, and Ben tries to keep a low profile at the new school. Then Ben meets Nathan, a funny and charismatic classmate who is proudly bisexual, and things begin to look a little more hopeful for Ben.
