Plot summary
Helen Reddy wins a contest in Australia that sends her to New York City in 1966 to record an album. She brings her three-year-old daughter Traci. The record label tells her it already has enough female stars and withdraws the deal, leaving her in the city without a visa. Short of money, she sings in small nightclubs to support herself and Traci. She also gets in touch with Lilian Roxon, an old friend who works as a rock journalist.

- Director Unjoo Moon screened the film for Helen Reddy, her ex-husband Jeff Wald and her two children, calling it one of the hardest screenings she had to do. During the screening Reddy sang along to her songs and cried.
- Helen Reddy, the singer the film is about, lived in a care facility in Los Angeles and died one month after the film's Australian release. Her family advised the filmmakers on the project.
