Plot summary
In the Texas outlaw country movement, the same scene that produced Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson, Blaze Foley is the songwriter whose own name stays unsung. The film braids three periods of his life, past, present, and future, instead of telling them in order. One strand is the affair with Sybil, the woman he loves. Another strand is a stretch of performance and recording work. Around these scenes, two of his friends sit for a radio interview and answer questions about the man they know. A third strand follows what his songs mean to the fans, friends, and foes around him.
