Plot summary
47 is an Agent, a genetically enhanced soldier carrying out contracts for the International Contracts Agency, marked by a barcode on his neck. He has spent years tracking Katia, the daughter of the Ukrainian geneticist Piotr Litvenko, who designed the Agent program and then abandoned it. Katia lives in Berlin under the surname Van Dees, tormented by anxiety and by senses that register everything around her, and looks for a man whose name she does not know. Mercenaries under Delriego are hunting Litvenko too, hoping to rebuild the program for themselves. At a subway station, a man who introduces himself as John Smith offers her protection and says he has information about the man she is looking for.
