Plot summary
François Truffaut, a former critic at Cahiers du Cinéma with three features to his name, admires the work of Alfred Hitchcock, whose career as a director spans close to four decades and some forty films. Truffaut asks him for a series of interviews about his movies, and Hitchcock agrees. Over eight days in 1962 the two men record their conversations at his offices at Universal Studios in Hollywood. The talks move through Hitchcock's filmmaking methods and take up each of his films in turn, and Truffaut publishes them as Hitchcock/Truffaut in 1966. The documentary draws on the original recordings and adds reflections from other directors on what Hitchcock, Truffaut and the book meant for their own work.
