Plot summary
Sara Davis, a high school freshman, plays soccer on her school's varsity team. Her father Gil has trained her since she was small and wants her to become the youngest player ever taken by the U.S. National Team. Her mother Julia would rather she put school first, and her coach faults her for not working with her teammates. Classmates see her as a jock first and foremost. Her best friend Tutti brings her back into a dance group whose spring performance falls at the same time as soccer. After boys in the cafeteria criticize her, Sara empties a tray of food over the worst of them. She notices Josh Anderson, a student photographer, and they talk briefly. When national team scouts come to a practice, Regina, a senior teammate, plays aggressively.
