Plot summary
Henry VIII spends his final days at court, remembering the six marriages that shaped his reign. His first queen is Catherine of Aragon, a Spanish princess who had earlier been married to his older brother Arthur. Her only living child is a daughter, Mary, and Henry confides to Thomas More that he believes the marriage is cursed by God. He then turns to Anne Boleyn, a lady of the court who will not become his mistress unless they marry. When the Vatican refuses to annul the first marriage, Henry removes Cardinal Thomas Wolsey from power and is made head of a new English church. Anne is crowned queen.

- The film was given a royal premiere, and director Waris Hussein deliberately wore a Nehru jacket to it so he could present himself as an all-Indian director.
- Waris Hussein, who found it hard to turn down directing the film because it was one of his favorite periods in history, and his writer chose to approach the story on a psychological basis, the problem being that Henry VIII could not have sons.
