Behind the award
Lynne Frederick was the first actress to receive the Evening Standard British Film Award for Best Newcomer, in 1973, for Henry VIII and His Six Wives and The Amazing Mr. Blunden. Among the eight actresses who have held the title, she was the youngest.
A role that slipped away
Frederick tried out for Alice in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1972), but her friend Fiona Fullerton won the part. She was also first runner-up to play Saint Clare of Assisi in Franco Zeffirelli's Brother Sun, Sister Moon (1972), a role that went to Judi Bowker.
