Garfield Morgan

Biography

Garfield Morgan was an English actor whose work was mostly on television, with occasional film parts. He was born in Birmingham and raised in Erdington, where he performed with a drama group run by a youth club, and he first trained as a dental mechanic before attending drama school. His professional acting began at Birmingham's Arena Theatre, and he later held production posts at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury from 1957 to 1958 and Manchester's Library Theatre from 1959 to 1960. On television from 1955, he made hundreds of appearances, including the role of Gwyn Lewis, a detective chief inspector, in the opening series of Softly, Softly. He was best known as Frank Haskins in The Sweeney, appearing across all four series, and he also acted in two 1969 episodes of Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased). His film work included The Odessa File (1974) and 28 Weeks Later (2007). He died in 2009.

Morgan began acting at the Arena Theatre in Birmingham. He was later Director of Productions at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury from 1957 to 1958.
Behind the camera
Morgan served as associate director of the Northcott Theatre from 1976 to 1978, and in 1978 he also held the associate director post at the Nottingham Playhouse.
