Jane Asher

Biography

Jane Asher is an English actress and author who found early fame as a child performer. Born in London in 1946, she began with films such as Mandy and the science fiction picture The Quatermass Xperiment (1955), then played Alice in audio versions of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. Her later screen work includes The Prince and the Pauper (1962), The Masque of the Red Death (1964), Alfie (1966) and Deep End (1970), the last earning her a BAFTA nomination for best supporting actress. She appeared in the Dennis Potter film Dreamchild (1985) and in Death at a Funeral (2007), and received British Academy Television Award nominations for A Voyage Round My Father and Love Is Old, Love Is New. Asher has also acted widely on stage and written novels and cake decorating books.

Asher's first pantomime came in December 2009, when she played in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at Richmond Theatre, a performance that drew enthusiastic reviews.
