Plot summary
A preacher driving through Death Valley picks up a female hitchhiker, Lucindia, and offers her a drink. She coughs, stumbles from the car, and he stabs her and buries her, raising a crucifix over the grave. Lucindia returns and bludgeons him. Nearby, four college students from Western Pennsylvania, Eric, Chris, Monique, and Sarah, are driving to Redondo Beach. They spot Lucindia at a cluster of crosses and take her into their car. When Chris mentions other friends also heading to Redondo, Lucindia claims she tortured them, pulls a gun, and sexually assaults Sarah. Sarah and Eric knock her out of the car.
