Plot summary
Camp Bleeding Dove loses its rule-enforcing director to a lightning strike, and the counselors, college freshmen, are left responsible for the campers. Wichita is brooding and intellectual; Wendy, who is guileless and religious, is his opposite, and he is at first put off by her. Talia, an outcast and a former college friend of his, has feelings for him. Jasper is openly gay, Pixel is a waifish hippie who washes in the camp lake, Adam is brutish, and Donald is a nerdy, unconfident virgin. Each counselor narrates a piece of the summer, and a courtship between Wichita and Wendy unfolds in front of everyone.
