Plot summary
Francis Bergeade has just turned sixty-five, and the plumbing supply company he owns in Dole brings him nothing but trouble: the tax office hounds him, his wife Nicole treats him with contempt, and his daughter Géraldine wants an expensive wedding. His one pleasure is long meals in fancy restaurants with Gérard, his best friend and a car dealer. The strain brings on an attack from a blocked nerve, and while he convalesces his family watches a reality program about people who have vanished. It features Dolorès, born in Spain, and her grown daughters Zig and Puce, who make foie gras in Condom and are looking for the husband and father who vanished twenty-seven years ago. He is the image of Francis.
