Plot summary
Emily Walters is an American widow. She lives in Hampstead Village, in London. Her days there are quiet and uneventful. Donald Horner is a local recluse. He has spent seventeen years in a ramshackle hut on land near the forest. Emily learns that developers are targeting his home. They intend to remove him. She takes on the task of saving Donald and his property. He is gruff. He politely turns down her offers of help. The two are drawn to each other.
