Plot summary
Marnie Piper has spent two years living with her grandmother Aggie, a witch who keeps a home in Halloweentown, the realm where monsters have settled away from humans. Back in the mortal world, the family hosts a neighborhood Halloween party, and Marnie tries to impress a new boy named Kal by leading him into Aggie's hidden room to show him the spellbook kept there. Not long after, Aggie notices unwelcome magical symptoms and decides the trouble must be traced to Halloweentown. She and her granddaughter set out through the portal, which opens only on Halloween and shuts at midnight, to find the source of the magic and set it right while there is still time.
