Plot summary
Gypsy Vale is 25 and Clive Webb is 18. Both are goths in Sandusky, Ohio. Gypsy's parents, Ray and Velvet, played in a band years ago, and Gypsy wants a singing career like the one her idol Stevie Nicks has. Her mother is gone, and Gypsy will not move away and leave Ray by himself. Clive, checking a Stevie Nicks fan site, learns about the Night of a Thousand Stevies, a festival in New York. Ray then admits that his wife did not merely vanish: she went off to try to become a singer. Clive talks Gypsy into the trip. On the road they pick up Zechariah, a hitchhiker who says he has left the Amish life, and the three of them spend the night at a rest stop.
