Plot summary
As a girl, Sam watches her mother, the assassin Scarlet, flee a job that went wrong, and is left in Nathan's care. Fifteen years on, Sam works as an assassin for the same organization, where Nathan oversees personnel. He hands her an assignment: kill a man who took money from the Firm and bring the cash back. At a library that serves as a weapons armory, she meets Anna May, Madeleine and Florence, three of Scarlet's old partners, who equip her for the job. Inside the target's hotel room, Sam shoots him when he reaches for a ringing phone, then hears the call and learns the money is a ransom for his kidnapped daughter, Emily. She has him treated by a Firm doctor and takes over the exchange.
