Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Tamra Davis read the script in 1985 and loved that it revolved around a strong female character, but she spent years trying to set the film up while people asked her why she wanted to make a film about two awful kids who kill people.
- Costume designer Merrie Lawson studied girls at Pasadena's Eagle Rock Plaza mall, bought Drew Barrymore's clothes at the Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul and Goodwill, chose undersized dresses, and tie-dyed every item including the socks so Anita would look like someone who rarely does laundry.
- Drew Barrymore turned down the chauffeur that is commonly provided to actors on set, telling Tamra Davis she could get to work on time by herself and would not be treated like a baby.
