Plot summary
Marilyn and Percy Jones are marking their 25th wedding anniversary with a renewal of vows, and Theresa, their daughter, has come home for the weekend with Simon Green, the man she intends to marry. She has not told her parents that Simon is white. Marilyn likes him when they meet; Percy does not, and race deepens the suspicion he already holds toward any boyfriend of his daughter's. Simon tells Percy he works on Jeff Gordon's pit crew, a claim Percy, one of Gordon's biggest fans, can check. Percy arranges for Simon to sleep in the basement, where he also sleeps to keep watch on him, because no hotel in town has a room free.
