Plot summary
Pat, Sam, Reece and Tiger play in the punk band the Ain't Rights, touring the Pacific Northwest. When a gig is canceled, a radio host, Tad, arranges a show through his cousin Daniel at a skinhead bar in the woods outside Portland, opening for the metal band Cowcatcher. Pat returns to the green room for Sam's phone and sees the body of a woman, Emily, who has been stabbed. He calls the police, but the bar employees Gabe and Big Justin take the band's phones and hold them captive with Amber, Emily's friend.

- Green Room came out of director Jeremy Saulnier's self-described "obsession" with making a thriller set in a green room; he had first tried the idea in a 2007 48-hour film challenge short involving the supernatural, which he called "really kind of fun and hammy", and still wanted to do it "the right way".
- Saulnier, who used to play in a hardcore punk band called No Turn on Fred, wanted Green Room to "stand the test of real musicians scrutinizing every frame", so he enlisted Hutch Harris of the indie rock band The Thermals to teach the actors the musical parts they perform onscreen.
- Saulnier stocked the soundtrack with heavy metal acts such as Midnight rather than white nationalist bands, saying he wanted the club to have a Motörhead-like atmosphere and had no intention of financially supporting white nationalist artists.
