Plot summary
Marty Burlsworth is seventeen years older than his brother Brandon, who plays high school football and hopes to line up for the University of Arkansas. Their father, Leo, an alcoholic former musician, has long been estranged from the family and tries to return to the lives of Brandon, Marty and their mother, Barbara. Brandon arrives at Arkansas in 1994 without a scholarship, and offensive line coach Mike Bender doubts he will make the team, since he lacks the bulk of a Division I lineman. Nathan Ward, Anthony Lucas and Grant Garrett, the roommate assigned to him, make fun of him.
