Plot summary

Andy Goodrich is a sixty-year-old art dealer in Los Angeles whose small gallery is starting to fail. His wife Naomi calls one night to say she has checked into a ninety-day rehab program for an addiction to prescription pills and is leaving him. He drives to the facility and is turned away. At home he is out of his depth with Billie and Mose, the couple's nine-year-old twins, and misses the school dropoff. He tells the children their mother is in St. Louis, but their classmates say otherwise. Andy befriends Terry, a part-time actor and the single father of one of their classmates. He asks Grace, his thirty-six-year-old daughter from his first marriage, to help watch her younger siblings; she is pregnant with her first child. His accountant warns him and his partner Cy that the gallery is losing money.
