Big break
In 2006, Urie joined the ABC dramedy Ugly Betty as Marc St. James, assistant to Wilhelmina Slater, played by Vanessa Williams. The show's concept gave Wilhelmina a new assistant each episode, so Urie was first billed as a guest star, but Williams loved their chemistry and he became a regular during the first season.
First role
Urie's Broadway debut came in January 2012, when he took the part of Bud Frump in the second revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.
Beyond film
Urie gave voice to Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus kept in a local aquarium, in the audiobook of Shelby Van Pelt's novel Remarkably Bright Creatures. That recording was one of the 2023 Audie Awards finalists.
