Plot summary
Claire is a college student in America with a puppeteer's ambitions; what she wants is a life in France. Thibaut, a figure skater from France, is one reason: she is taken with him. She crosses the Atlantic with Julia, her wealthy and unpredictable best friend. In Paris, Claire takes work as an au pair for a household that is hard to please, and runs into French officials who make her life difficult. Her time there also includes a relationship that does her no good. She and Thibaut meet again in the city.
