Plot summary
Sonny and Cher are handed the chance to headline a feature of their own making. Mr. Mordicus sets a deadline of three days for them to bring him a hit idea, and if nothing comes of it, the script he already holds is the one that gets made. Sonny proposes premises, and each is acted out as a musical sketch: a mystery, a Western, a Tarzan-style jungle tale, a spy thriller. Mr. Mordicus appears in every one of them as the antagonist, taking a different guise each time, while Sonny and Cher sing and dance through the skits they have imagined.

- Good Times was first budgeted at $500,000, with $100,000 going to Sonny and Cher, but it came in at $800,000; Broidy then sold the film to Columbia for $1.2 million, putting him in profit before shooting even began.
- Novice screenwriter Nicholas Hyams was hired after suggesting Sonny and Cher make a film about making a film, but Friedkin called him condescending to Sonny and disdainful of him; Hyams was fired and Friedkin and Bono wrote the script themselves from his idea.
- The scheduled 20-day shoot, begun in March 1966, ended with extensive sequences still unfilmed. Bono blamed Friedkin's refusal to compromise on production value, and Friedkin arranged an extra $100,000 to finish with his own non-union crew, shooting guerrilla style.
- William Friedkin turned down the chance to direct second unit on Grand Prix (1966) in order to make Good Times.
- ABC reported a loss of $1,050,000 on Good Times by 1973, but Friedkin said that although the film tanked, his personal reviews were strong and he got offers as a result.
