Biography

Peter Robbins was a Los Angeles-born child actor and later real estate broker who gained national attention in the 1960s as the first actor to give Charlie Brown a voice in animated Peanuts specials. He began acting in film and television at seven, with a guest role as Elmer on The Munsters. At nine he became the voice of Charlie Brown and performed the role in one documentary, six television specials and one film from 1963 to 1969, including A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965), It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966) and A Boy Named Charlie Brown (1969). His trademark AAUGH! scream from that film continued to be used for Charlie Brown and other Peanuts characters. He also appeared in F Troop, Get Smart and Good Times (1967). Replaced by younger actors at fourteen, he retired from acting in 1972 and worked in real estate, later hosting talk radio in Palm Springs. He died in 2022.

A role that slipped away
After the 1960s, younger child actors took over Robbins's role in the Peanuts specials when he was fourteen. The scream of "AAUGH!" he first gave in A Boy Named Charlie Brown (1969) kept being used for Charlie Brown and other Peanuts characters.
