Godzilla Minus One (2023) on Netflix

Plot summary

In 1945, kamikaze pilot Kōichi Shikishima sets his Zero down on Odo Island claiming engine trouble. Lead mechanic Sōsaku Tachibana suspects he is dodging his duty. That night a giant creature, Godzilla, attacks the garrison; ordered to fire, Kōichi freezes and is knocked out. The war ends and he returns to a Tokyo where his parents died in the bombing. Burdened by guilt, he supports Noriko Ōishi, who lost her parents the same way, and Akiko, the orphaned baby Noriko rescued, and takes work aboard a minesweeper clearing naval mines. Godzilla, changed by American nuclear tests at Bikini Atoll, sinks ships on its way toward Japan, while the government keeps the danger from the public.
