Plot summary
The Stooges come together in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1967 around singer Iggy Pop, bassist Dave Alexander and the brothers Ron and Scott Asheton on guitar and drums. Guitarist James Williamson joins later, and Ron Asheton shifts to bass after Alexander is fired. Their first three records do not sell as well as their label expects, and the audiences they play for are indifferent or hostile. By 1974 the members go their separate ways, Iggy Pop builds a solo career, and the band's influence spreads through punk rock. The documentary mixes archival photographs, footage and cutout animation with interviews and material from the group's 2010 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, covering its early years and its reunion.
