Ron Asheton
Biography
Ron Asheton was a guitarist from Washington, D.C. who grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan and formed the Stooges in 1967 with Iggy Pop, his brother Scott and Dave Alexander. He played guitar and wrote much of the music on the band's first two records, The Stooges (1969) and Fun House (1970), then took up bass for Raw Power (1973). The group broke up in 1971 and again in 1974, and between reunions he played in acts such as Destroy All Monsters, New Race and Wylde Ratttz. He returned as guitarist when the Stooges re-formed in 2003 and remained with them until his death in 2009. His screen work also included Mosquito (1994), Frostbiter: Wrath of the Wendigo (1995) and Legion of the Night. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted him with the Stooges in 2010, and Rolling Stone ranked him among its 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.
