Plot summary
In 2000, Dick Harper is promoted to vice president of communications at Globodyne, and he persuades his wife Jane to give up her job as a travel agent so she can spend more time with their son, Billy. On his first day, a television interview shows that chief executive Jack McCallister has sold most of his shares, and the company's stock collapses. Globodyne goes bankrupt, and Dick and the rest of the staff lose their jobs and pensions. The interview leaves Dick's reputation damaged, and Jane learns their savings and pension were tied up in the worthless stock. The couple take low-paying jobs and lose both, pawn their belongings and face an eviction notice, so Dick proposes robbery.
