Plot summary
Wren is a high school senior in Cleveland with hopes of studying at New York University and an invitation to a Halloween party from Aaron Riley. Her widowed mother, Joy, plans a party of her own with her boyfriend Keevin and orders Wren to take her eight-year-old brother Albert trick-or-treating. At a haunted house Wren and her best friend April meet Roosevelt and Peng, two classmates, and Albert slips away into the crowd of costumed children. Roosevelt takes his parents' car without asking and drives the group through town looking for the boy. Albert has an evening of his own, meeting Fuzzy, a convenience store clerk with a grudge against the fighter Jörgen. Roosevelt has a crush on Wren, and April would rather be at Aaron Riley's party.
