Plot summary
Federal detectives Aaron Falk and Carmen Cooper are building a money laundering case against Daniel Bailey and his firm, Bailey Tennants Finances. Their evidence is meant to come from Alice Russell, an employee who agrees to gather it in return for immunity over her own earlier embezzlement. Alice joins a corporate hiking retreat in the Giralang Ranges alongside four coworkers: her boss Jill Bailey, Daniel's wife; her childhood friend Lauren; and the sisters Brianna, known as Bree, and Bethany, known as Beth. Three days later Falk takes a call from Alice that he cannot make sense of, and learns that only four of the five women walked out of the wilderness. Alice is missing, and Falk and Cooper set out into the ranges to find her.
