Plot summary
An insurance agent by trade, Medgar Evers takes the post of the NAACP's first field secretary in Mississippi and moves to Jackson to direct the organization's regional headquarters. He organizes black residents against segregation and the racist politics of the state and takes part in a boycott against white merchants. His wife Myrlie and their children are often at home alone when bigots throw firebombs and bricks through the windows of the family's house. Evers holds that the rights written into the Constitution belong to every American citizen, no matter his color, age, class or education, and he keeps working toward integration.
