Plot summary
Lindy Jenkins and her daughter Kelly run Cherry Creek Farms, a horse ranch that has struggled to make money since Kelly's father died in an accident. Lindy hires Toby as the new stable manager, and he arrives with a horse named Flicka, whom Kelly, a teenage horse lover, quickly befriends. Stephanie Meyers, a former friend of Kelly's, has held a grudge against her since the time of the death and now treats her like a servant at the farm where she boards her own horse. Stephanie rides for a dressage team, and when a teammate is injured, Flicka carries Kelly to a place on that team, deepening Stephanie's resentment.
