Plot summary
Jake Gibson wakes on his birthday to a horoscope that forecasts a flawless five star day, and then the day delivers the opposite. Everything that can go wrong does. Convinced that astrology has no legitimacy, he decides to test it. Three other people were born at the same time and in the same place as he was: Sarah Reynolds, Yvette Montgomery and Wesley Henderson. Jake leaves the college town of Berkeley, California, to track them down and ask whether their birthdays turned out as badly as his own. The search carries him to Chicago, to the boardwalk of Atlantic City and to the streets of New York.
