Plot summary

Pallavi writes and lives in New Orleans, where her relationship with her mother Usha is close but contentious. Usha keeps arranging dates for her, and after one suitor stands her up, Pallavi meets Sandeep and they begin seeing each other. He is handsome, wealthy and Indian, and looks like a good match. Usha, who follows vedic astrology, greets the news with worry. The private investigator she hires reports that several of his former girlfriends are unwilling to talk about him. Sandeep asks Pallavi to share his home, and when she says no, he offers to cover rent at a new apartment so she can quit her job and write. Usha sees a man tightening his hold on her daughter's life.
