Plot summary

The military Grey serves rewards troopers who win in battle with pay and promotion. Citizenship is the final prize, a life above the misery most of the populace endures, and only three in a hundred troopers live long enough to claim it. Grey, a class C soldier, has come back from fight after fight, a record that earned him the nickname Grey Death. He is chasing the dream his late sister held, to rise through the ranks. Then he learns that Red, the mentor who trained him, has fallen into enemy hands, and he and his comrade Nova head out without permission to find him.
