Plot summary
Enola Holmes is the youngest child of the Holmes family, and her mother Eudoria has taught her chess, jujitsu and independence. On her sixteenth birthday she wakes to find that Eudoria is gone; only some gifts remain. A week later her older brothers arrive. Sherlock judges her intelligent, while Mycroft, now her legal guardian, regards her as troublesome and arranges for her to attend the finishing school run by his friend Miss Harrison. The flower cards her mother left carry secret messages and point to hidden money, which Enola takes to escape disguised as a boy.

- The Conan Doyle Estate sued Netflix over Enola Holmes, arguing the film violated copyright by showing Sherlock Holmes as emotional about his relationships, a trait they said appeared only in stories published between 1923 and 1927 whose US copyrights had not expired.
- Benthall Hall in Shropshire, which stood in for the Holmes family's Ferndell Hall, had never been used as a filming location before, and its head groundskeeper let the grounds become overgrown to give the production the look it wanted.
- Helena Bonham Carter called Eudoria Holmes the "smallest, greatest part I've been offered", and her agent tried to discourage her from taking such a minor part; she ended up appearing more than in the initial script.
- Costume designer Consolata Boyle and her team custom-designed and dyed the costumes, making about thirty for Enola alone, and the red powderpuff dress had to be repeated several times because fight scenes damaged it.
- Millie Bobby Brown improvised on set as Enola, something she would not do on the heavily scripted Stranger Things, and keeping up with her proved challenging for the focus puller.
