Plot summary
Zack Bradley has spent ten years as a box boy at Super Club, the lowest rung on the staff. He once put his savings and his grandmother's into a dot-com, and since then he has avoided risk and lives with her. Vince Downey, the store's head cashier, has been named Employee of the Month seventeen months running and wants a record eighteenth, which brings a place in a management program and a new car. Amy Renfro transfers in as a cashier, and Zack learns from her employment file that she dated a star employee at her previous store. He sets out to end Vince's streak, while Vince, who treats his box boy Jorge badly, will not surrender the title.
