Peter Bart

Peter Bart is an American journalist, film producer, and longtime entertainment editor who was born in New York City and raised on the Upper West Side. He began as a reporter for The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and the Chicago Sun-Times before joining Paramount Pictures in 1967, where he rose to vice president in charge of production and helped oversee films such as Rosemary's Baby (1968), True Grit (1969), The Godfather (1972), and Paper Moon (1973). He later became senior vice president at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and president of Lorimar Productions, working on Being There (1979) and The Postman Always Rings Twice (1981). Bart served as editor-in-chief of Variety from 1989 to 2009 and has written a column for Deadline Hollywood since 2015. With Peter Guber, he co-hosted the AMC series Shootout from 2003 to 2008. He also executive produced and wrote Boffo! Tinseltown's Bombs and Blockbusters (2006) and has published eight books.
